PARIS. – A French Sevran city Mayor Stéphane Gatignon is holding a hunger strike near the National Assembly of France. He demands to increase budget subsidies intended for this municipality, which is on the brink of bankruptcy.

He started the protest action on Friday by installing a camp in front of the Bourbon Palace, where MPs of the Lower Chamber hold sittings. They are going to vote on Nov. 13 on the issue of increasing the rates of municipal subsidies.

French Minister of the Interior Manuel Valls met with the Mayor on Saturday and expressed his support, NEWSru.com informs.

As it is expected, the amount of so-called ‘subsidies to urban solidarity’ will be raised up to 120 million Euro.
