YEREVAN. – Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian advised Azerbaijan to catch the train that is fading into the distance.

Responding to a question during Thursday’s news conference, and with respect to Azerbaijan’s initiative on a “road map,” he said there is an impression that the level of awareness of those who made that statement is still in the 1990s.       

In the FM’s words, seventeen years have passed since 1995 and that train has already departed. But some in Azerbaijan have remained at the train platform. “I believe they should strive to catch the train that is fading into the distance. The international community has already brought forth a ‘road map,’ which was introduced in Kazan[, Russia,] and which refers to the precepts for settlement of the Karabakh conflict,” Nalbandian recalled.       

“A progress could not be achieved in Kazan because Azerbaijan rejected those proposals. I do not believe the Azerbaijani party’s idea could be serious, especially when this is about a seventeen-year-old map,” Armenia’s FM noted, and he urged to be more realistic and consistent with the position of the international community.
