The situation in the Turkish city of Igdir remains tensed after arrest of Kurdish mayor and his eight party members, Turkish Radikal reports. The MP of Kurdish Peace and Democracy Party elected from Igdir — Pervin Buldan delivered a speech near party’s office, criticizing authorities. “Those speaking about democracy seek to exterminate Kurds and put the elected Mayors to jail,” MP said.

Later, Kurds tried to organize a rally, though it was banned by police. The gathered divided into groups and stoned the shops of Azerbaijanians. Nationalists clashed with Kurd demonstrators, however police managed to prevent disorder arresting 53 people. Some of the policemen got injured as well.

As NEWS.am reported previously, on January 21, Turkish police arrested Kurd Mayo of Igdir, Peace and Democracy Party MP Mehmet Nuri Gunes suspected of links with Kurdistan Workers’ Party.
