YEREVAN. – Armenia’s economic activity index grew by 7.2 percent in January-October 2012, as compared with the same time period last year, the National Statistical Service informs.

To note, however, a 16.5 percent economic activity drop was registered in October, as compared with September, but this was an increase but 4.9 percent, as compared with October 2011. The drop is due to the end of the agricultural season in the country, as agricultural activity has dropped by close 33 percent.

But a 2.5-percent rise in the industry sector was recorded in October, as compared with September, but, still, the industry’s ten-month growth rate fell all the way by 10 percent.  

The service sector—but without trade—still contributed the most to Armenia’s economic activity increase, as it was 11 percent since the beginning of the year, despite a 0.4-percent drop in October as compared with September.

The agricultural growth was at 8.2 percent from January to October. 

The construction sector dropped by 9.9 percent in October as compared with the previous month, but this sector’s ten-month rate of drop reduced considerably and it is at 1.2 percent.     

Also, the trade turnover increased by 3.2 percent and electricity production grew by 9.8 percent in the past ten months.  

The average monthly salary in Armenia constituted AMD 118,100 (approx $288) in October thereby surpassing the October 2011 indicator by 4.4 percent. But the average monthly wage has not changed much since the past month.
