ETCHMIADZIN. – Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II on Thursday received Greek Ambassador Ioannis Taghis.     

First, the Catholicos gave his blessing to the newly appointed ambassador and wished him a productive work in his new mission in Armenia, Information System of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin informs.

Reflecting on Armenian-Greek ties, Karekin II expressed a delight that cooperation between the two peoples is developing in line with the spirit of relations between the Armenians and the Greeks. Also, he expressed his appreciation to the ambassador of Greece for his country’s support of, attention toward, and respect for the Armenian Church.            

In his turn, Ambassador Taghis assured that he will do everything in his capacity to strengthen the interaction between Armenia and Greece. Also, he reflected on the historical relationship between both peoples and stressed the important role of the Christian Church.     

In addition, the interlocutors discussed relations between the Armenian Apostolic and Greek Orthodox Churches, and underscored the Armenian Church clergy members’ receiving education at the theological institutions of Greece.
