The President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, in the interview with Russia 24television company said that Armenia relies on Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).
Answering to the question of how he assesses the joint forces of CSTO and whether he thinks of them as a partner that can be turned to, President Sargsyan reminded that in September in Yerevan “Interaction-2012” joint military exercises of CSTO Collective Rapid Reaction Force were held.
“The exercises were held on the highest professional level. For a long time I headed the Defense Ministry of Armenia, and before that had the real experience with the military actions. Thus, let me tell you that the military units, which participated in the trainings and Collective Rapid Reaction Force in general, are ready to tackle difficult issues. Our organization is efficient, and today during the meeting of the Council, it became clear that the heads of the CSTO member states are going to further develop the military component of the CSTO,” the president said.
When asked, if he would rely on the support of CSTO forces in case of any trouble, Sargsyan replied positively.
“Of course, it would be strange not rely on them. Otherwise, why are we in this union? Because countries participate in this alliance to ensure that on right time they will support each other,” Sargsyan added.
