YEREVAN. – The voter lists have significantly improved in Armenia. Counterpart International Armenia Director Carel Hofstra stated this while addressing official opening of the seminar of the prosecutors and defense attorneys in Armenia, and in connection with the upcoming presidential elections in the country. 

He noted that the activities by Armenia’s Police have become more transparent and open. In his view, the other important step is the civil society’s active involvement in the electoral processes.

“There has been success, [but] there were also shortfalls. It is often difficult to prove the fact of a [election] violation; but the society should be informed why a [respective] case was dismissed,” Carel Hofstra said.   

In his turn, OSCE Yerevan Office Deputy Head William Hanlon called to mind that the aforesaid seminar is being held with the EU funding and within the framework of the OSCE program that aims to provide assistance in holding democratic elections in Armenia.
