Secretary General Vano Merabishvili of Georgia’s National Movement Party—which is led by incumbent President  Mikheil Saakashvili—stated that the path of Armenia is contrary to the national interests of Georgia. 

Merabishvili said this on Friday, commenting on Georgian PM Bidzina Ivanishvili’s statement that he observes with a positive envy as to how Armenia maintains good relations with Russia and NATO alike.     

“Membership to NATO and to European institutions stems from Georgia’s state interests. Even though Armenia is a friendly country for us and I respect its foreign policy course and choice, the Armenian path, its demeanor toward Russia and NATO, are unacceptable for us and contrary to the state interests of Georgia,” Vano Merabishvili stated.
