YEREVAN. - Armenian authorities are ready to promptly clarify the voter list before the February 18 presidential election, MP from the Republican Party of Armenia Hovhannes Sahakyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am, commenting on the statement issued by PACE mission.
“Armenian law properly regulates the voting process of country’s citizens living abroad. Diplomats and embassy workers can vote, and legal migrants can vote at the diplomatic representations of Armenia. This move has been clarified, given the fact that the opposition has repeatedly stated that due to the absence of Armenian citizens in the republic, the election results get falsified,” Sahakyan said.
“That’s why we strive to make transparency in this matter.”
He recalled that the voter lists are displayed on the website of the Armenian police. Anyone can read them and report about inaccuracies or inconsistency. Such mistakes will be promptly corrected.
“This means that we are ready to monitor and carry out normal technical preparation for the elections,” the MP said.
Note that in the statement of the PACE observation mission, published recently, there is a concern about “inaccuracies in the voter list, confusion about the right to vote for Armenians living abroad.”
