YEREVAN. – Construction of the malt factory in Armenia’s Gyumri city is planned to be completed between 2013 and 2014, depending on the weather conditions, Yerevan Beer Company President Hakob Hakobyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.  

The factory will be built at the site of the former one. A total of 2.1 million euros are already invested to acquire new German-made equipment. The factory should satisfy the domestic and regional markets alike, since there are no such factories in Georgia and in Eastern Turkey.  

The factory is planned to process 20,000-25,000 tons of malted barley and to produce 15,000 tons of dry malt per year. At the same time, a variety of barleys from Germany and Hungary will be grown in Armenia. In Hakobyan’s view, the local production is fully sufficient for the capacity of the factory.   

According to preliminary estimates, the replacement of imported malt with the local one will reduce the beer cost price by 30 percent.
