YEREVAN. – Commenting on the recent statement by chairman Ahmet Turk of Turkey’s former pro-Kurdish Democratic Society Party (DTP), in which he apologized to the Armenian people in connection with the Kurdish involvement in the Armenian Genocide, Armenian National Assembly Deputy Speaker, ruling Republican Party Spokesperson Eduard Sharmazanov saluted such more-frequent atonement by the Turkish political circles.
“I highly appreciate Turk’s call to [Turkey’s] PM [Recep Tayyip] Erdogan to stop denying the crime of the Young Turks, to accept the fact, and to apologize to the Armenians.
I believe this statement by the Kurdish politician [in Turkey] should serve an example for the present-day leadership of Turkey, toward reconciling with the painful chapters of their history, [and] apologizing to Armenians and other people that have become victims of genocide,” Sharmazanov said.
