YEREVAN. – Armenian presidential candidate, non-party affiliate, epic poetry specialist Vardan Sedrakyan is not accused of anything at present, but he is deeply concerned that charges could be laid against him following the election on February 18, when the incumbent authorities make up the vote percentages they want and the international observers leave the country. Sedrakyan himself stated this during a press conference on Tuesday, and added that this will be brought to fruition after February 22-23.     

Speaking about the respective causes, Sedrakyan said when he had announced about his running for president, the journalists had sought to determine his link to the October 27, 1999 parliamentary tragedy.  

Incidentally, as per Sedrakyan, they could start also asking as to whether he has any connection with the tragic events that occurred in capital city Yerevan on March 1, 2008.

The presidential contender added that, at present, the authorities are attempting to create a backdrop to be able to lay charges against him in connection with the recent assassination attempt against fellow contender, opposition National Self-Determination Union Chairman Paruyr Hayrikyan.      

To note, Sedrakyan had earlier informed that he knows the two persons that are arrested on suspicion of carrying out the assassination attempt, as these suspects had taken part in the remodeling of his home. In addition, and according to the press, Vardan Sedrakyan was questioned at the time, in connection with the October 27 tragedy.
