YEREVAN. – The battle of Armenia’s presidential candidate Andreas Ghukasyan—who is on a hunger strike—is aimed at resolving the country’s internal maters, and this battle does not envision an intervention by outside forces. Ghukasyan’s campaign headquarters coordinator, Armen Grigoryan, stated this during a press conference on Wednesday.
He noted that, aside from the political figures, a representative from the US Embassy likewise paid a visit to the presidential hopeful.
In his words, following the presidential vote on February 18, the recommendations by the people will be summed up and a strategy for the future courses of action will be developed.
“Andreas Ghukasyan does not plan on leaving Armenia’s political arena, and he will continue his battle. Ghukasyan was able to raise the matter of fake elections all by himself, [and] he kept it in the country’s political agenda,” Grigoryan said.
He added, however, that the international election observers, who are in Armenia at present, have not visited Ghukasyan.
As Armenian News-NEWS.am informed earlier, presidential contender Andreas Ghukasyan is on a hunger strike ever since January 21, and under the slogan, “Stop Fake Elections.” He demands from the Central Electoral Commission to declare the ruling Republican Party presidential candidate, incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan’s formal nomination null and void. Ghukasyan’s health condition has fluctuated over the course of his hunger strike. Representatives from Andreas Ghukasyan’s campaign headquarters and an ambulance staff are on 24-hour duty at his side.
