YEREVAN.- Armenian presidential candidate, incumbent head of state Serzh Sargsyan does not regret spending time and efforts for an attempt to normalize relations with Turkey.

Although the planned program failed, it is also a positive result, he said during the meeting with voters in Yerevan.

“I wanted to normalize relations with Turkey. It was important from political, economic and moral viewpoints. But, it was not possible to implement the project,” he said.

Sargsyan recalled that the initiative faced criticism both in Armenia and all over the globe. Therefore, he had to tour many countries to inform compatriots about the initiative and listen to their opinion.

“Some were trying to prove that the signing of protocols with Turkey will lead to the loss of Nagorno-Karabakh, suspension of the international recognition of Armenian Genocide, rejection of national ideas. None of the mentioned things happened. If the signing of protocols were beneficial for Turkey, why do they refuse [to ratify]? Do they feel sorry me? So, there are problems,” Sargsyan emphasized.
