YEREVAN. – I consider an absurd rumor all those statements on the occurrence of violations in Monday’s ongoing presidential election in Armenia, stated ruling Republican Party (RPA) Press Secretary, National Assembly Deputy Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov, commenting on the respective violations recorded by the campaign headquarters of presidential candidate, opposition Freedom Party Chairman, and former PM, Hrant Bagratyan.   

“On Sunday, presidential candidate [RPA leader and incumbent President] Serzh Sargsyan’s [Central Election] Headquarters yielded its proxy’s spot—to sit between the two [precinct] commission members—to the representatives of Hrant Bagratyan and [fellow presidential contender, opposition Heritage Party Chairman, former FM] Raffi Hovannisian. If they do not trust our proxies and the commission, let them go [there], sit and oversee. Let them present facts [on the violations]!” Sharmazanov said, and added that the Police and the Prosecutor General’s Office are working operatively, and each and every news reporter has the right to be present at the election precinct and to make video recordings.      

As per Eduard Sharmazanov, no serious case of election violation is recorded as of yet.
