YEREVAN. - In 2012 Armenian people consumed 14.4 thousand tons of pork. Compared to 2011, the consumption of pork increased by 4 thousand tons or 38%, the National Statistical Service of Armenia informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

In contrast to 2011, when 50% of the demand for pork was met by local production, in 2012, the volume of local production decreased to 42.5%. Armenia imported 8.2 tons of pork, compared to 5 thousand tons in the previous year.

Simultaneously to the increase in pork consumption, the consumption of chicken meat decreased, reaching 40 tons from the previous number of 44 tons. Beef continues to be the most popular meat, each year about 50 thousand tons of beef consumed in Armenia.

Armenian people in a year consume about 38 kg of meat per person.
