YEREVAN. - European observers monitoring presidential elections in Armenia would like to meet with the protesters, who almost disrupted their press conference.

As previously reported, the press conference of the observation mission of PACE, European Union and OSCE/ODIHR was crashed by the action organized by  the Centre for Democracy “Bekum” NGO. A group of activists broke into the news conference hall, once the event had kicked off, and they flopped the gathering. A female activist read aloud a text, in which it was noted that Monday’s vote was marred with election violations and the European observers have no right to approve the results of this election.

Several confused observers left the stage, and then a stir began. The situation was resolved in about an hour, after which the press conference continued.

Commenting on the incident, the head of the PACE mission Karin Woldseth could not help but remind that freedom of speech is good, but does not replace respect for the other person.

“It would be good if we were explained what was going on, on a language understandable to us,” the PACE representative said.  She noted that observers would like to meet with protesters.
