YEREVAN.- Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) said Raffi Hovannisian is under illusions and is making emotional statements after coming in second in the presidential race.

“He is better to return from illusions to reality not to make unserious and ridiculous statements,” spokesperson for RPA Eduard Sharmazanov told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Answering to Hovnnisian’s claims on people’s victory in the elections, Sharmazanov said Serzh Sargsyan was elected president and opposition candidate’s supporters must not disregard 861,160 votes.

RPA has applied for holding demonstration on Thursday in Liberty Square where Hovannisian’s rally is underway, but it is still unclear whether the demonstration will take place.

As reported earlier, in line with preliminary data and as a result of the tally of the ballots that were cast in Armenia’s 1,988 polling precincts, incumbent President—and ruling Republican Party leader—Serzh Sargsyan received 58.64 percent of the votes in Monday’s presidential election. Opposition Heritage Party Chairman, and former FM, Raffi Hovannisian came in second, with 36.75 percent.
