YEREVAN.- Leader of Heritage party Raffi Hovannisian demanded that the Central Electoral Commission must recognize Serzgh Sargsyan’s registration invalid.

Application was handed in by Hovannisian’s representative Armen Martirosyan. He explained the requirement by the fact that a document on election expenses filed by Serzh Sargsyan did not include the money spent on renting over a thousand campaign headquarters and posters. According to the applicants, these cost exceeds the amount provided by law which “may be a ground for invalidation.”

CEC head Tigran Mukuchyan asked why Hovannisian’s staff did not raise the issue before, while Martirosyan responded they were expecting the final declaration on expenses.

Finally, CEC rejected the appeal with seven votes “against” and one vote “for”.

The preliminary results of the February 18 elections showed Serzh Sargsyan got 58 percent of votes, while his closest rival head of Heritage party Raffi Hovannisian won about 37 percent. Hovannisian has not recognized his defeat and is holding mass protests calling to announce election results invalid.
