YEREVAN. - Armenian National Congress representative Gurgen Yeghiazaryan predicted second place for opposition leader Raffi Hovannisian months before the elections and though post-election processes went not as he expected, he does not believe Raffi Hovannisian.
According to Yeghiazaryan, he thought Raffi Hovannisian would congratulate the incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan on his re-election, and the registration of “another step forward” and the elections would be completed.
Answering the question, why he does not believe Hovannisian, at a news conference this Monday, Yeghiazaryan noted that none of the candidates knows the real number of votes they got at the elections.
“Of course, he got a lot of votes, through the work of our members as well, as they defended his votes, but there were votes against the incumbent president,” he said.
According Yeghiazaryan, Raffi Hovannisian has not posed any threat to the authorities to date. But today he has become a problem only thanks to the young people, who meet in the Liberty Square and are really set to change the situation in the country.
“For the past week he has been speaking, but has not said anything,” Yeghiazaryan said, noting that naturally nobody can seriously expect that Serzh Sargsyan will come to the Liberty Square and hand over the power.
