The U.S. Department of State congratulated Serzh Sargsyan on his reelection as President of Armenia.

“On Armenia, we’d like to congratulate President Sargsian of Armenia, who was today certified as the winner of the February 18th presidential election by Armenia’s Central Election Commission,” said Deputy Spokesperson Patrick Ventrell, opening traditional briefing on Monday.

Washington looks forward to working with Armenia on the democratic and economic reforms critical to the long-term security and stability of the region, he added.

Armenia’s Central Electoral Committee confirmed on Monday a protocol on final results of the February 18 presidential elections. Incumbent president Serzh Sargsyan won elections in the first round, getting 58.64 percent (861,373 votes). Head of Heritage Party Raffi Hovannisian was the second with 36.75 percent of voters (539,693).
