YEREVAN. – There is no post-presidential-election crisis in Armenia. Instead, there is a situation that is linked to the post-election campaign by opposition Heritage Party Chairman Raffi Hovannisian—who is declared runner-up to the winner, incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan, as a result of the presidential election on February 18, but who claims to be the real winner in the vote—, political and electoral technology specialist Armen Badalyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.   

“When 200,000 people leave the country within five years, this naturally attests to the fact that there is a crisis within the country’s socioeconomic and political systems; but this cannot be called a political crisis,” Badalyan said. 

In his words, a “crisis” assumes a volatile situation, but there is no such thing within the country’s domestic politics. It is just that the people, who are dissatisfied by the lection results, have come out to the streets.    

“Some of the people are acting mechanically and they may get tired after several weeks and, in all likelihood, this movement is being directed,” the analyst noted. 

This notwithstanding, Armen Badalyan maintained that the current processes in Armenia do not pose a threat to the serving president.
