YEREVAN.- Participants of the rally in support of former presidential candidate Raffi Hovannisian honored victims of Sumgait massacres.

“Our nation incurred losses 25 years ago. People were killed only for being Armenian,” Hovannisian said, declaring a moment of silence.

Massacres of Armenian population were committed in the city of Sumgait, Azerbaijan, on February 27-29, 1988. Armenian citizens were killed and their property was destroyed. Over thirty Armenians were tortured and killed. Thousands of residents became refugees.
