YEREVAN. – The Armenian National Assembly (NA) is “impotent” in terms of lawmaking, Marxist Party of Armenia leader Davit Hakobyan stated during a press conference on Tuesday.

In his view, the Prosperous Armenia Party, opposition ARF Dashnaktsutyun Party, and opposition Heritage Party NA factions’ proposal to pass to a completely proportional electoral system and parliamentary governance in the country is a “total political idiotism.”

“The presidential system of governance is a unifying link in our divided country. Furthermore, no one has the right to deprive the people of the right to elect a president by direct vote,” Hakobyan said, and added: “If desired, the CC [Constitutional Court of Armenia] can dissolve the parliament, [and] pursuant to Article 65 of the Constitution.”
