YEREVAN. – Iravunk daily spoke with Armenia’s former presidential contender, “Radio Hay” Company Manager, political scientist Andreas Ghukasyan with respect to the current hunger strike by opposition Heritage Party leader, former FM Raffi Hovannisian—who is declared runner-up to the winner, incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan, as a result of the presidential election that was conducted on February 18, but who claims to be the real winner in the vote and who declared a hunger strike on March 10 at capital city Yerevan’s Liberty Square. 

“Is it possible that you will follow Raffi Hovannisian’s suit and join the hunger strike?

I accept Raffi Hovannisian’s principled approach: to fight, by the means available to him, for establishing the foundation of the rule of law in our country. The fact that he puts himself personally at risk and not the citizens of Armenia, attests to his high sense of responsibility.

Thus, is it possible that you will join him, too?

I think that, yes, possibly. [But] it will depend on the situation. I am confident that the best forces of our nation shall unite,” Iravunk quotes.
