Renowned Armenian poet and satirist, the editor of satirical magazine Vozni Aramais Sahakyan passed away at the age of 77 in one of hospitals in Yerevan.

Aramais Sahakyan was born in the village of Artsvashen. He graduated from the History and Literature Department of the Yerevan Pedagogical Institute, as well as the higher literature courses at the Union of Writers of the USSR (Moscow).

His satirical poems were published not only in Armenia but also throughout the Soviet Union. His works have been translated into more than 30 languages. He also wrote lyrics for many popular songs. He was awarded “Movses Khorenatsi” medal (2001) and had the title of the honorary citizen of Yerevan (2006).
