YEREVAN. – Armenian National Assembly (NA) Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan convened a consultation meeting—with participation by the parliamentary forces, except for the opposition Heritage Faction—to discuss the post-presidential-election developments in the country, Haykakan Zhamanak daily reports.

“In an interview with us, [ruling Republican Party] RPA NA Faction leader [and RPA Vice Chairman] Galust Sahakyan said they prepared a draft statement, [and] after obtaining consent on it, there could be a special parliamentary session. According to him, the draft includes a proposal to discuss the matter of making amendments to the Electoral Code and holding a constitutional referendum. RPA awaits proposals from the other [NA] factions.     

‘This may provide a procedure for dialogue. The political arena is an arena of dialogues; you are either in this arena, or you become marginal,’ he said.    

To our query that, ‘[the] Heritage [Party] is at the focus of the post-election process, [and] how will you discuss [the aforesaid matter] without them?’ Sahakyan responded:

‘Heritage’s problems already are closed for us, since it is incomprehensible for us what Heritage wants. This is also the view of the other political forces, which do not want to deal with Heritage at this time. They [that is, Heritage] are gradually marginalizing themselves,’” Haykakan Zhamanak writes.
