YEREVAN. – What was done by Armenia’s opposition Heritage Party Chairman, former FM Raffi Hovannisian—who is declared runner-up to the winner, incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan, as a result of the presidential election that was conducted on February 18, but who claims to be the real winner in the vote and who declared a hunger strike on March 10 at capital city Yerevan’s Liberty Square—was a one-hundred-percent plan to support the current authorities. Ex-presidential candidate, Nagorno-Karabakh Republic former FM Arman Melikyan stated this during a press conference on Wednesday.   

In his words, the present-day situation in the country is a crisis, which is inclined to grow deeper. Melikyan noted that a fair presidential election could have been conducted in Armenia, but the authorities did not want to do that.     

“That is why the people believe they are abandoned in the country, and this, in its turn, contributes to the growing emigration,” he said.    

Speaking about the possible future courses of action by Raffi Hovannisian, the former presidential candidate assured that Hovannisian is at an impasse in terms of politics. 

“An action should have been taken before Election Day. Had all [presidential] contenders joined my request for publicizing a data on those that have left the country, everything would have been different,” Arman Melikyan argued.
