YEREVAN. – Light industry will be included in Armenia’s export-oriented industrial policy strategic plan, as a priority direction, Economy Minister Tigran Davtyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am. Thus, the number of Armenia’s priority domains will reach eight.

“[The country’s] light industry is in the process of modernization. It is also an important social direction because it is possible to create many jobs—including for women—with small investments,” Davtyan said.

In his words, several light industry companies already are working successfully in Armenia.

According to the minister, one of the advantages of light industry is its distribution in the regions of the country.

Overall, a close to 30-percent growth is expected in Armenia’s light industry in the two months of this year.
