YEREVAN.- Sociologists say three political forces will be definitely elected to the Yerevan council.

Sociologist Aharon Adibekyan considers these forces are Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), “Barev, Yerevan” bloc and Prosperous Armenia.

“ARF Dashnaktsutyun has more support in Armenia’s regions than in Yerevan, but the party has powerful organizational resources,” he told reporters on Friday.

Speaking about the proportional lists submitted by the parties, Adibekyan criticized the opposition forces for their choice of the first numbers in the list. He believes, neither Vartan Oskanian from Prosperous Armenia, Vahagn Khachatryan from ANC, nor Armen Martirosyan from “Barev, Yerevan” bloc can be associated with this post. Sociologist said only RPA has good chances to win because of its number one in the list, incumbent Mayor Taron Margaryan.

The Yerevan Council election is slated for May 5, and the participating political forces will vie for 65 Council seats. The election campaign will kick off on April 7 and come to an end on May 3. May 4 is a no-campaign day.

The Yerevan Council election will be held with proportional lists only.
