YEREVAN.- Elections to the Armenian capital’s council have a different meaning. On May 5 the residents will be guided by the fact that Yerevan is the capital of all Armenians, head of Republican Party of Armenia faction Galust Sahakyan told reporters.

According to Sahakyan, political teams are trying to get dividends in the Yerevan council elections, unnecessarily politicizing the campaign:

“The parties which had never raised issues related to Yerevan are running for the council. It has turned out that they love the capital,” Sahakyan emphasized.

The MP is confident that his party will be the first in the vote.

“If we work hard, we will get half of the votes,” he added.

The Yerevan Council election is slated for May 5, and the participating political forces will vie for 65 Council seats. The election campaign will kick off on April 7 and come to an end on May 3. May 4 is a no-campaign day.

The Yerevan Council election will be held with proportional lists only.
