YEREVAN.- Russia is appointing ambassadors to Armenia who are coordinating Georgian direction, political analyst Sergey Minasyan said, commenting on appointment of new Russian envoy.

Former Ambassador Vyacheslav Kovalenko, appointed in 2009, had a good experience on Georgia. Being appointed to Yerevan, he involved his team of skilled experts on Georgia, too.

As to Armenia, Ambassador Kovalenko made a great contribution to the signing of crucial document, Minasyan told reporters. During his term in office, Presidents Medvedev and Sargsyan signed an agreement to prolong Russia’s military presence in Armenia.

Besides, Ambassador Kovalenko was well informed about the Karabakh conflict, political analyst noted.

Newly appointed Ivan Volynkin is also a skilled expert. This refers to Georgian direction as well, Minasyan stated, adding that change of ambassador will not affect development of relations between Moscow and Yerevan.
