YEREVAN.- The Council of Elders is not playing role in the management of Yerevan, ARF Dashnaktsutyun member Aghvan Vardanyan said.
Vardanyan, who is a secretary of ARF-D faction, said people should vote for political force, not the first numbers in the proportional list.
“Authorities changed mayors over the last four years. Consequently, the Republican Party of Armenia does not consider mayor an elected post. Authorities are just appointing mayors,” he told reporters on Tuesday.
The upcoming elections must change situation not only in the capital, but the entire state. Hence. ARFD’s motto is “Yerevan, transform Armenia.”
Speaking about the failed idea of creating a single electoral list of the opposition forces, politician said now we need to focus on the future.
“This idea has failed. Maybe it’s for the best. Now everyone will struggle to get maximum number of votes,” he emphasized.
The Yerevan Council election is slated for May 5, and the participating political forces will vie for 65 Council seats. The election will be held with proportional lists only. The winner will be able to appoint a mayor. ARF proportional list is headed Armen Rustamyan, the second and third positions - Aghvan Vardanyan, Arsen Hambardzumyan.
