YEREVAN.- Correspondence of former presidential candidate Raffi Hovannisian and president Serzh Sargsyan will not bring in crucial change in the current political situation in Armenia, a analyst Alexander Iskandaryan said.

The expert recalled that neither Raffi Hovannisian, nor his supporters have resources to insert political pressure, but at the same time protests continue in the country. Regardless of which points the parties will agree on based on the meetings or exchange of letters, protesters will not be satisfied, head of Caucasus Institute believes.

“To get 40 percent of votes is not enough. The opposition must work. It needs human and financial resources, growing parliamentary faction. Hunger strike may support this, but not be a background for the strategy,” he told reporters on Tuesday.

The expert noted that Serzh Sargsyan, unlike former president Kocharyan, expressed willingness to seek mutually acceptable variants of interaction with opposition forces.

Last week Hovannisian sent a document to presidential administration urging to build new Armenia together. He put forward a number of demands, including early parliamentary elections, amendments to Electoral Code, as well as opportunity to appoint officials to 8 key posts. 

On Monday, Serzh Sargsyan replied to this letter, urging Hovannisian to stop hunger strike, after which a dialogue is possible. In his Tuesday letter addressed to Sargsyan, leader of Heritage party said he is open for discussion.
