YEREVAN. – The seismic safety of Armenia’s Metsamor Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) is in full compliance with international standards, chairman Ashot Martirosyan of the State Committee on Nuclear Safety Regulation told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“The matter of NPP’s seismic safety is at the focus of the [International Atomic Energy Agency] IAEA, [and] moreover, long before the second operation of the nuclear plant. Ever since 1997, the IAEA designed the method for reviewing the seismic safety of the working block, and the Armenian party developed a specific program. All problems are resolved with participation by reputable international companies,” Martirosyan noted.   

He added that all necessary work is carried out to strengthen all elements.

Ashot Martirosyan also informed that companies and institutions from Europe and Russia, and experts from the United States have participated in these activities.
