YEREVAN. – The solution is for Armenia’s opposition Heritage Party Chairman, former FM Raffi Hovannisian—who was declared runner-up to the winner, incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan, as a result of the presidential election that was conducted on February 18, but who claims to be the real winner in the vote—to fulfill the opportunities he was given as a result of the election, and not to misspend his political capital. Ruling Republican Party National Assembly (RPA NA) Faction MP, NA Financial-Credit and Budgetary Affairs Committee Chairman Gagik Minasyan said this during a press conference on Wednesday.  

In his words, if Hovannisian achieves success in the forthcoming Yerevan municipal election, he can expect success in the next parliamentary and presidential elections, as well. 

Minasyan stated that when Heritage’s leader received an unprecedented high number of votes on February 18, the political circles were saying that if he could have fulfilled that achievement, Armenia would have had a new political leader of the opposition.  

“Unfortunately, that did not happen,” the RPA MP noted.

In Minasyan’s words, when everything rests on a viewpoint that is formed as a result of the perceptions by one person, the society cannot cope. 

“We have to wait until April 9 [that is, the day when President Sargsyan is scheduled to formally swear in for a second term in office, and also when Hovannisian himself plans to swear in, at Liberty Square, as Armenia’s new president], and let us hope the primary assertion, according to which his [that is, Hovannisian’s] movement would not lead to illogical commotion, comes true,” Gagik Minasyan stated.
