After Erzincan Chief Prosecutor İlhan Cihaner was arrested, the Turkish Supreme Board of Judges and Prosecutors (HSYK) issued an order dismissing all the four prosecutors of the Erzurum court of special jurisdiction.

Minister of Justice Sadullah Ergin, who was discontented with the HSYK’s decision, had to appoint new prosecutors. They, in turn, now have to deal with 600 cases, with 25 of them being special ones. The new prosecutors were shocked. Among the cases is the case of Igdir Mayor Mehmet Nuri Güneş, who was arrested on charge of maintaining contacts with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party.

The İlhan Cihaner case was sent to Istanbul court to be considered as part of the Ergenekon case.
