YEREVAN. – Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan and opposition Heritage Party Chairman, former FM Raffi Hovannisian—who was declared runner-up to the winner, incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan, as a result of the presidential election that was conducted on February 18, but who claims to be the real winner in the vote—can sit at the negotiating table if Hovannisian accepts that he is not president. Ruling Republican Party MP Sukias Avetisyan stated this during a press conference on Friday, and added that the doors are not yet closed for conducting negotiations.

As for the President’s swearing-in ceremony that will be held during the National Assembly special session on April 9, according to Avetisyan, it is preferable that all members of the parliament attend this event.

But according to the other speaker of the press conference, Politologists’ Union of Armenia Chairman Hmayak Hovhannisyan, if we take into account that some parliamentary factions in the country carry out everything in bits and pieces, “they will attend the inauguration in the same manner.”
