YEREVAN. – Armenian capital city Yerevan Deputy Mayor Kamo Areyan received a delegation led by Hafize Ipek, the Deputy Mayor of Turkey’s primarily Kurdish-populated City of Diyarbakir.

Welcoming the guests on behalf of Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan, Areyan noted that normal life conditions are created in Yerevan for Armenia’s national minorities—including the Kurdish community—, and these minorities carry out cultural and other initiatives.

“Yerevan has numerous ties with the cities of several countries. We are happy to host you in Yerevan, and I believe cultural dialogue can serve as a good impetus for cooperation in other domains, as well,” Areyan said.

In her turn, Hafize Ipek noted that Diyarbakir’s Kurdish community maintains good neighborly relations with the local Armenians, and stressed that Armenians play a very active role in the political and economic life of Diyarbakir.

“We see the Armenians as a friendly people, and are confident that our contacts can have a good prospect,” Diyarbakir’s deputy mayor stated.
