YEREVAN.- On April 9 Armenian society will bury the scarecrow of democracy, former member of Karabakh committee Ashot Manucharyan said.

“There is no representative democracy. There is either democracy or representation. Capital is hiding behind a facade of democracy,” he told reporters on Monday.

This requires building of a new system, he added, because society demands such a change, and it can be achieved by changing the management system.

Manucharyan deems the new system must have a shape of “people’s assembly” which operated in Armenia in the late 80s during the Karabakh movement.

April 9 is the day of inauguration of President Serzh Sargsyan. Runner-up in presidential elections Raffi Hovannisian did not recognize election results and is going to hold a mass protest action in the center of Yerevan on the same day. He calls it “inauguration of new Armenia.”
