YEREVAN. – The Armenian State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition (ASCPEC) has started to deal with the matter of increased airline ticket prices in Armenia, ASCPEC Chairman Artak Shaboyan stated Monday in the National Assembly (NA).

“I have some information from the media that [ticket] price changes are made in some airline companies, and I already have instructed to deal with this matter,” Shaboyan said.  

In his turn, NA Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan suggested that this problem be resolved as quickly as possible.

To note, the increase in the prices of plane tickets in Armenia started on April 1, when Armavia Airline Company—which is Armenia’s national carrier—stopped its flights. The ticket prices for flights from Armenia to Dubai as well as to Moscow, Krasnodar and several other Russian cities have increased considerably.

In actual fact, the Russian airline companies are taking advantage of the current situation, and attempting to receive superprofits. And to cover up this price increase, they are selling solely premium-class tickets and practically not selling business-class tickets.
