YEREVAN. – The airline carriers of Armenia and Russia are on an unlevel playing field in the Armenian market, Deputy Chairwoman Izabella Muradyan of the Air Transport Communications Subcommittee of the Public Council of Armenia stated on Monday.    

She recalled that, in 2009, the Armenian Government-Affiliated General Department of Civil Aviation had signed an agreement with Russia and with respect to expanding the air transport market. But this document breached the previously working precept of parity.  

“Previously, one [airline] company from each country was flying from Armenia to Russia. After the signing [of the agreement], however, six more [but now, five] Russian companies also entered the market,” Muradyan said.  

In her words, this situation creates unequal conditions for the Armenian airline companies.  

“So, because of our business interests, we need to negotiate with Russia and introduce the precept of parity for the specific cities of the Russian Federation,” the expert concluded.
