February 19, clashes between police and Kurdish demonstrators occurred in the province of Hakkari, northwestern Turkey.

The protests marked the anniversary of head of Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) Abdullah Ocalan’s arrest, Firat agency reports.

The demonstrators built barricades in the streets and chanted slogans “Terrorist Republic of Turkey”, “Down with fascism!”, “Long live the PKK”.

Police used gas sticks to break up the rally. In response, the protestors threw stones and Molotov cocktails at the police. Some of the gas sticks fell in the schoolyard and wounded some of the students.
