YEREVAN. – The Armenian capital city Yerevan Council elections—which are slated for May 5—are not the Storming of the Bastille. Acting Justice Minister Hrayr Tovmasyan said this during Thursday’s briefing with news reporters, responding to the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) representatives’ statements about breaking the political monopoly in the country.

“What does political monopoly mean? If they consider themselves to be zero in the [country’s] political system, this question should be posed to them. They are included in the political system, and that place is the very National Assembly,” Tovmasyan stated.     

With respect to PAP’s Yerevan election slogan of “Let’s start from Yerevan!” the acting minister of justice noted that, with its economic indicators, Yerevan is the leader among all of Armenia’s communities, and he advised the PAP to start the changes from those communities where PAP members govern and where the situation is even worse.
