YEREVAN. – Serzh Sargsyan did everything to deprive Armenia’s presidential elections from content and to rule out the participation of his main challengers in this game of his. Opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC) bloc National Assembly (NA) Faction leader Levon Zurabyan said this during Saturday’s founding convention of the ANC party.      

He stressed, however, that the people found an alternative in this case, too, and therefore Sargsyan had to rig the election yet again but, as a result, the people rebelled.   

“[But] the political leaders [specifically, opposition Heritage Party Chairman, former FM Raffi Hovannisian—who was declared runner-up to the winner, incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan, as a result of the presidential election that was conducted on February 18, but who claims to be the real winner in the vote] that governed this uprising were inappropriate for this uprising and, as a result, that uprising has met an impasse. On the other hand, it is apparent that the widespread discontent is maintained. I believe there is every reason to insist that there is a revolutionary situation in the country,” Zurabyan stated.  

In his words, ANC is that political force which achieved Armenia’s independence and organized the Armenian nation’s first military triumph in the last 700 years of it history.

“We wish to have a state that is built upon legitimacy. We do not have eternal friends and enemies, we are open to world dynamism and new ideas,” the ANC NA Faction leader noted.    

In his turn, the ANC party convention moderator, ANC bloc NA Faction Secretary Aram Manukyan, announced that the party has 1,813 new members so far and their number is constantly growing. 

“Today, the ANC party is an established fact,” he added.
