YEREVAN.- “Barev, Yerevan” bloc will receive at least 40 percent of votes in the election to Yerevan Council, chief editor of Ararat magazine, member of the bloc Alen Simonyan said.

According to his forecast, the Council will also feature the Republican Party of Armenia, Prosperous Armenia and ARF Dashnaktsutyun.

Armenian National Congress, Orinats Yerkir and Arakelutyun parties will not overcome 6-percent barrier, he told reporters on Saturday. These parties have no chances, since people are well aware of their political activities.

Simonyan believes the April 9 opposition rally was the only key political event since the election campaign has launched.

Secretary of the Heritage board Stepan Safaryan was one of the previously announced speakers during a press conference. However, Mr. Safaryan did not turn up at the press conference without warning the organizers.

Six political parties and one bloc have submitted formal applications to run in the Yerevan Council elections. The latter are slated for May 5, and the participating political forces will vie for 65 Council seats. The election campaign will come to an end on May 3. The Yerevan Council election will be held with proportional lists only.
