YEREVAN.- This year Armenia-Turkey relations will register the same processes as each year during the period prior to April 24, expert in Turkic studies Ruben Melkonyan said.

He separated two processes related to recognition of the Armenian Genocide by Turkey. The first is state policy which did not undergo any changes.

“In fact Turkey continues its previous policy. Turkey’s moves are not following normal political logic but the denial trend,” he told reporters on Monday.

At the same time Turkish society is facing interesting processes in connection with the fact of the Armenian Genocide.

According to him, regardless of the authorities' will , the issue of the Armenian Genocide has become a point of discussion in Turkish society and one of the most important factors in shaping civil society in the country.

“In particular, if a Turkish political or public figure wants to achieve recognition as a person having democratic and impartial views, he must express his opinion on the Armenian Genocide,” Melkonyan noted.

The issue is even being discussed in the Turkish parliament. Kurdish MPs are already ready to apologize for the actions of their ancestors and are urging the Turks to do the same, he added.
