YEREVAN. – The Armenian capital city Yerevan elections did not bring any significant changes in Armenia’s politics, and we should not even have any hopes for a positive change. 

Political scientist Arkadi Vardanyan noted the aforementioned during a press conference on Tuesday, as he reflected on the results of the Yerevan Council of Elders vote that was conducted on May 5.

In Vardanyan’s words, Armenia’s population and the oppositional potential of its people are dropping simultaneously. 

“Due to the opposition’s non-targeted policy, the people counter the authorities somewhat feebly,” he noted. The political scientist stressed that this is proved by the fact that, in the recent presidential election, the people actually voted against the system, and not for opposition Heritage Party Chairman, ex-presidential candidate, former FM Raffi Hovannisian.    

“But Raffi Hovannisian could not establish as a nationwide opposition leader,” Vardanyan said. 

In his conviction, elections do not exist in the Armenian scene, and the Presidential Staff actually forms the election results.   

Arkadi Vardanyan added that any election in Armenia is a formality, and the only way out of this situation is civil struggle.
