YEREVAN. – Economic standards are not applied in Armenia’s healthcare sector. 

Healthy Lifestyle monthly magazine editor Ashot Melkonyan told the aforesaid to Armenian News-NEWS.am, with respect to the discussions on the Government’s “Armenia’s 2012-2015 Long-Term Development Program.”

As per Melkonyan, that is why it is not clear as to the expenses the hospitals will have to make to take care of hospital patients. Such standards enable to clearly specify the cost of state coverage for hospital costs.

In Melkonyan’s words, the manpower standards of Armenia’s hospitals are such problem, too.       

“At present, many hospitals have a surplus of surgeons that are rarely performing surgeries,” he added.

According to Melkonyan, the clarification of the list of hospitals, where the patients have the right to immediately receive free medical care, likewise will be helpful to clarify the state coverage in the healthcare sector.   

“Such list does exist, but it is not always used,” Ashot Melkonyan stated.
