February 25, Turkish President organized a trilateral 3-hour meeting on the occasion of 50 top militaries’ arrest charged with planning a coup.

Turkish President Abdullah Gul, Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Ilker Basbug - Chief of the Turkish General Staff discussed recent developments, noting that everything will be done in accordance with law and constitutional regulations.

NEWS.am recalls that 49 high ranking military officials, including 21 generals and 27 high ranking officers were arrested on February 22. Istanbul court issued a writ against thirteen out of nearly 50 incumbent and retired generals arrested on a charge of planning a coup, whereas six are released. Eight servicemen are interrogated.

According to the documents published by Turkish Taraf newspaper, Sledgehammer action plan comprised 4 clauses and after their implementation coup d’etat would be staged. The plan envisaged explosion of a mosque at the Friday prayer, landing of fighter aircrafters in Aegean Sea. The mentioned actions had to reveal weaknesses of ruling Justice and Development party. EU already expressed its concern over the arrests, while U.S. has not commented on the issue yet.
